Funding options for major garden makeovers

If you are thinking about giving your garden a major overhaul, you are going to need both time and money, and if you are not planning to do most of the work yourself, you will also need to find the funds to hire a professional gardener. If you have a pile of money sitting in the bank, then you don’t really need to worry about how you are going to fund it, but if you don’t, then you’re going to have to make alternative plans. You could save up the money that you need over time, or do it in stages as and when you have funds available, and this would be by far the cheapest way to do it. However, if the garden on your property is undeveloped or in a poor state of repair, then you may not be as willing to wait around until you have the funds to do it up. In these circumstances, your only option is to borrow money.

There are basically three ways to borrow money from a commercial lender. These include taking out a homeowner loan, taking out a personal loan, or using a credit card. If you own your own property, and you need to borrow a substantial amount of money, then the best way to do it would be to take out a homeowner loan, also known as a secured loan. This is a type of loan that uses an asset such as your home as collateral for the loan, so if you default on the loan, the lender would be in a position to demand the sale of your house in order to pay the remaining balance. Usually, you get the best interest rates with this type of loan, and credit checks are not usually required in order to secure one.

Personal or unsecured loans are loans that do not require any collateral, although a credit check will almost certainly be required. Generally speaking, the loan amounts offered tend to be smaller than you would get with a secured loan, and the interest rates will usually be higher as well. However, they are usually the best option for borrowing a few thousand pounds, which may be all that you need. Another option is to use a credit card to buy everything you need for your garden makeover. If you don’t need more than a couple of thousand pounds, and are confident that you can pay back the full amount before the interest free period on your card expires, then this may well be the cheapest option. However, if you think that it might take you a couple of years to pay it off, then a credit card can start to look a lot more expensive than a personal loan.
